Standing Up Goals

The blog for the boys the boy's club for menCreating goals is what separates man from other men.  I wager that a person’s success can be measured on his goal-setting abilities.  Without goals, a person will wander aimlessly throughout time disregarding agendas and personal achievement.  While this may sound like some sort of wonderful Communist utopia, the result is usually a bland and meaningless existence.

Additionally, creating goals without specific deadlines or strategy is just short of pissing in the wind or spitting on your pet. Goals require planning and execution. Maintaining a series of goals in this fashion adds great meaning to life. A solid goal is as valuable to a person’s success as inheriting his daddy’s real estate fortune.

This clown meat tastes funny.

Goals can be large or small. I find that the more manageable a goal, the easier it is to achieve. You want to eat your next meal, plan it out and make it a goal. You want to be a circus clown, you gotta goal it. You want to be a cannibal that only eats funny tasting clown meat…gross. It’s important to keep in mind that biting off more than can be chewed will hinder completion of a goal.

When a goal is too large or takes too long to unfold, there is a chance that a person will either not complete it; if he even starts it at all. That’s why fat people stay fat; losing all of the weight is too big a goal. A large goal can be broken down into smaller goals. Once accomplished, a person can move to the next until the series of goals is finished. Taking it one day at a time is manageable. If a goal cannot be finished, it’s not worth doing. Making goals that are worth accomplishing is the point of having goals.

I have some goals. One (and it’s the purpose of this website) is that I am going to be a comedian. That’s not an easy thing to do in one fail swoop. In fact, it’s impossible. Sure, I could order business cards with “comedian” printed on them but I can’t afford that. Ink prices are ridiculous. This goal takes great diligence and patience. My goal is to pursue my dream one day at a time and get as much stage time as I can.

This brings me to my second goal. I want to write fresh material for every unpaid performance I do for at least my first year. From a comedian’s stand point, this is a difficult task to accomplish. Most performed bits and jokes are formed over many months and go through phases of edits and refinements. New material is reserved for the middle of a set if a comedian is feeling gutsy.

My goal requires writing everyday and probably bombing on stage nearly every night. I feel that this experience will make me a better professional in the future. This is a goal that I can accomplish every day. It’s difficult, but I believe, that over time it will become easier. Taking it a day at a time is the only way to accomplish my goals.

I’m glad you liked it, the clown meat, not the blog. Funny thing that you love clown meat.
