Practice Like You Play
I am a firm believer in the idiom “You have to practice like you play.” If you work hard, then it will show when you compete. Success on any platform occurs when you achieve your goals prior to your performance.
I have been out to perform stand-up comedy a few times now and I realize that the more I rehearse my material, the better I perform. I have to add that the most nerve racking times are prior my arrival at open mic bars. A great pressure comes over me when I rehearse. It’s almost like test preparation. I know if I don’t learn the answers, I might fail the test.
Obviously, I’m at a point where failure means very little. It’s a matter of pride nonetheless. I also feel that if I prep myself appropriately now, I will have greater success in the future. The discipline I learn today could be the advantage I need in the future. The audio clips below are of me practicing and of me performing the same material.
